Police in Otuke District is investigating circumstances under which an expectant housewife was hacked to death by her husband in a domestic brawl.
Initial reports indicate that 45 year old Helen Akello, a mother of eight and a resident of Amilo village, Oluru parish in Ogor Sub County, was hacked with a hand hoe last evening in a domestic brawl. She was 7 months pregnant.
A neighbour, Bosco Odyek Ogwang, narrates that the family has always been involved in domestic disputes stemming from the management of family finances raised from the sale of agricultural produce.
Manshur Suwed, the Central North regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying arrangements are underway to operate the deceased and remove the unborn baby. He adds that police is searching for the man, who is on the run.
Domestic disputes in the district is on the increase and Otuke RDC Robert Abak, attributed the increase to drunkenness and fight for ownership of family wealth.
In December 2014, two mothers were murdered in Oyam and Apac districts under similar circumstances.
